Santa Clara Street in New Iberia looks like the kind of street a lot of people would love to come home too. I would imagine that residents of this normally peaceful tree-lined roadway were taken aback quite a bit yesterday by the substantial police presence that rolled onto that street late yesterday afternoon.

New Iberia Police were called to Santa Clara Street to diffuse a potentially dangerous situation about 6 pm Tuesday evening. Officers had received a call of an irate suspect who had locked himself inside a residence in the 600 block of that road and was refusing to come out.

Fortunately, officers with the NIPD were able to use their talent and training to communicate with the suspect inside, and according to a report on the KATC website, the situation ended peacefully several hours after it began.

A spokesperson for NIPD did not confirm whether the individual who sparked the standoff would be facing criminal charges.
