Not Too Late To Be A Blood Hero [UPDATE]

Each year at this time of year Townsquare Media partners with United Blood Services and Sterling Automotive to bring you 'Reasons For The Season'.

At this time United Blood Services is facing a severe shortage of Type O negative blood and platelets.  Platelets are a component of blood that helps with clotting.  It is used to treat cancer patients, heart surgery patients and organ transplant patients.  One particular patient is using a significant amount of platelets and Type O negative red blood cells so United Blood Services is asking for your help with these particular donations.  To donate platelets call 337-235-5433 extension 3001 to schedule an appointment.

You can give blood at various locations throughout Acadiana to save lives and possibly win valuable prizes.  Each day during this blood drive a lucky donor will win a $500 VISA gift card.

Through Wednesday December 31, 2013 donors will receive a long sleeve 'I Believe In Miracles' tee-shirt while supplies last.

Approximately 800 donations have been made so far.  Keeping in mind that each donation can help up to three people we are off to an incredible start of the donation drive!

You can donate blood at United Blood Services at 1503 Bertrand Drive in Lafayette or at various locations in Acadia, Evangeline,Vermilion,Iberia,St.Martin and Lafayette Parishes.

Friday December 27, 2013 you can donate at Walgreen's in Rayne from 2:00-6:00pm, Walgreen's in Abbeville from Noon-6:00pm, Walmart on Pinhook in Lafayette from Noon-6:00pm, Super One on Ambassador from 9:15am-Noon and Old Navy in Lafayette from 2:00pm-6:00pm.

On Saturday December 28, 2013 Best Buy on Johnston in Lafayette from 11am-2:15pm, and Winn Dixie in Eunice from 3:00-5:15pm.

Sunday December 29, 2013 you can donate at Johnny's Drive Inn in Gueydan from Noon-6:00pm.

On Monday December 30, 2013 you can donate at Albertson's in Broussard from 3:00-6:30pm and Abbeville General Hospital from Noon-4:15pm.

New Year's Eve, December 31, 2013 donations will be accepted at Walmart on Ambassador in Lafayette from 9:00am-1pm.
