Officials Investigating Fire, Homicide in St. Martinville

The St. Martinville Police Department and the State Fire Marshal's Office are investigating a homicide following the discovery of a dead woman in a burning home Thursday.

St. Martinville Police Chief Calder Hebert reported the victim, 50-year-old Susan George, was found in a burning home on Margaret Street at approximately 11:00 a.m. Thursday morning.

Firefighters responded to a 911 call reporting the blaze and found the home engulfed in flames. Once the fire was under control, firefighters entered the home and found George's body in the dining room.

Hebert said investigators determined the fire was set at the rear of the home. They are investigating this incident as a homicide.
