A car/train collision in Jeff Davis Parish claimed the life on one person while another person escaped with moderate injuries. Tuesday at 9:12 am Louisiana State Police responded to the crash a half mile south of I-10 and found a car had been struck by a westbound freight train. The car then spun into a utility pole. The driver, 69 year old Donna Daigle of Iowa was pronounced dead at the scene while her passenger, 43 year old Kami Daigle was taken to Lafayette General with moderate injuries. Both occupants were wearing seat belts. A preliminary investigation indicates Daigle drove on to the railroad crossing and stopped her car. A toxicology sample was taken from Daigle for analysis. The crash remains under investigation by Louisiana State Police.
