A Port Barre woman is behind bars for having sex with a minor.

St. Landry Parish Sheriff's spokesman Maj. Eddie Thibodeaux said investigators responded to complaints that 33-year-old Lainnie Benoit was having sexual intercourse with an underage male at her home on Little Teche Road.

Thibodeaux said while Benoit was being interviewed by detectives, she admitted that the minor was staying at her home for over a week with her and her children. Benoit stated that after the third or fourth day, she and the minor began to hug and kiss each other which led to having sexual intercourse with each other.

Detectives also interviewed the minor who admitted that he and Benoit had sexual intercourse two to three times while he stayed at her home.

Benoit was booked into the St. Landry Parish jail Wednesday on charges including: felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile and indecent behavior with a juvenile.

"Parents need to ask the hard questions to their children to safeguard their well being.  Studies show that when an adult preys on our youth and has inappropriate sexual relations with them, it has a lasting effect." --Sheriff Bobby Guidroz.
