Basin Bridge Re-Opened Following Crash Involving 18-Wheelers

State police have re-opened the Interstate 10 near the Whiskey Bay exit on the Atchafalaya Bridge following a major accident involving at least two 18-wheelers and three other vehicles.

For several hours traffic was being diverted from I-10 to I-49 so that motorists could use Hwy. 190 as an alternate route.

Pictures from the scene painted a grim scene. One picture released by state police depicted two vehicles pinned to the guard rail by an 18-wheeler.

No word from police on the extent of any injuries.
