The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns have announced that they've extended the contract of their second-year head football coach Billy Napier through the 2023 season. That's just a one-year extension on the deal he originally agreed to here at Louisiana.

Napier was brought in before the 2018 season and signed a five-year contract through the 2022 season. In his first year on the job, he made $756,960 guaranteed, including a $500,000 contingent premium benefit funded by the Ragin’ Cajun Athletic Foundation (RCAF), a $6,000 annual car allowance, and a $960 cell phone allowance.

The contract has a base salary of $250,000 and increases by $25,000 in subsequent years through 2022 on his original deal.

We'll see what the money turns out to be for the extension but last season, Napier earned a couple of bonuses which included $25,000 because Louisiana finished his first year as head coach 7-7 made it to the Sun Belt Conference Championship Game. He earned another $25,000 due to the Cajuns playing in the Sun Belt-affiliated AutoNation Cure Bowl in Orlando.

Here is the statement that our very own Cody Junot put out on Twitter regarding the extension:

Congratulations coach!
