LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL) -- Reports two weeks ago of a man armed with a gun walking around the campus of the N.P. Moss annex were untrue, according to Lafayette Police.

Cpl. Paul Mouton, spokesperson for the police department, said a 15-year-old student falsely reported seeing the man with a gun because he allegedly stole that person's cell phone. The man entered the campus to get his phone back from the teen, Mouton said.

Police identified the man and were able to recover his phone from the student.

The teen was arrested on Feb. 14, Mouton said, and booked into the Juvenile Detention Center on charges of simple robbery and terrorizing.
