Saints Issue Statement In Response To President Trump’s NFL Comments
The New Orleans Saints have joined numerous other NFL teams by releasing a statement in response to President Trump's recent remarks about player protests around the league.
The statement was a joint release by the New Orleans Saints and the New Orleans Pelicans, both teams owned by Tom Benson, calling Trump's comments "disappointing and inappropriate."
Earlier this week during a rally speech, referring to any player who peacefully protests, President Trump said that NFL owners should have the "son of a bitch" fired or suspended.
The Saints statement was similar to other statements released by over half of the NFL teams by noon kickoff on Sunday, citing the work players do in their local communities and their continued work towards "equality for all."
We prefer to take this moment in time and work together, all of us, to stop the divisiveness. Our players and our organization serve the New Orleans community selflessly and do so without care of race, creed or sexual orientation and that makes us a better city and a better team. We believe strongly in honoring our flag and the national anthem and what it represents and we support our players. We all must strive to show that we are all Americans and continue to work towards equality for all. The NFL and NBA, perhaps more than any sports, have the power to bring communities together.
A number of Saints players sat during the national anthem, drawing mixed reactions from fans.
What is your take on President Trump's comments and the response from the Saints and the rest of the NFL?
