That headline could either be used to promote the world's worst horror movie or to simply announce that an automated salad making system will soon be available to consumers in the Lafayette area. Because I don't care for horror flicks, let's go with the automated salad making, shall we?

The owners of Salad Station have nicknamed their salad-making robot Sally, and as the name implies it's an easy way for hungry health-conscious diners to get a fresh salad even faster than if they went to a fast-food drive-through. The automated salad machine can dispense nearly two dozen ingredients into a salad in about nine seconds. In Louisiana terms, that's fast fast y'all.

The Hammond based company already has the devices in place across the state with many other locations planned. One of those locations is inside the cafeteria at Lafayette General Medical Center.

The proprietors of the business say each machine costs between $35,000 and $45,000 each. They are the brainchild of a Silicon Valley startup called Chowbotics. The machines can hold enough ingredients to make up to 40 salads without being refilled. However, the plan is to refill the machines twice a day, naturally, that would be dependent on demand.

By the end of 2019, the company hopes to have three dozen salad-making robots in operation across the state. The plan is to add another two dozen to locations around Louisiana by next year.
