The Five Retired Quarterbacks The Saints Should Call After Drew Brees Injury

Drew Brees injured his right thumb in the game Sunday and now the Saints are hoping that their backup quarterback, Teddy Bridgewater, can carry the load.

However, what happens if Bridgewater can't carry the load? Do the Saints resort to their third quarterback on the roster or do they start looking for someone who is not currently on the team?

Brees is expected to miss several weeks and if the SAINTS want to make a run for the Super Bowl they are going to have to get quality play from the man behind center.

So, I started to think, who are five retired quarterbacks the Saints could call up if the Teddy Bridgewater experiment fails. Now, I know these former players are enjoying retirement and that they would probably decline the offer, but let's have a little fun here.

The first retired QB the Saints could call is Tony Romo, the former Dallas Cowboy star. Romo is very comfortable working for CBS Sports these days and would likely turn down the offer, after all, he's about to get paid BIG bucks from the network. Plus, Romo loves the golf course. Not happening.

Next, the Saints could call Michael Vick. Yes, the former Falcon. But like Romo, Vick has settled-in with television. He is working for FOX and seems to really enjoy the new gig. However, I'll say this, I bet Vick could still play in the NFL.

Brett Favre thinks he could still play in the NFL. Well, let's see what you got. Of course, I am joking. Favre enjoys his time on the golf course and on the farm. While his ego may say he could still play, his body probably wouldn't allow it. But of all the QBs I'll suggest here, Farve would be the ONE to pick up the phone if the Saints came calling.

Then there's Steve Young, who is currently working for ESPN. He could do it all when he was playing. Steve ran the ball and threw the ball at a high level, but like the rest, he too is enjoying his time away from the field.

Lastly, there is Peyton Manning. The legendary QB has ties to the city and may still have the "fire" in him to play. However, he too is banged up from his playing days and he is making a KILLING off the field. Manning is in just about every television commercial and is probably making MORE off the field. But it could be worth a shot.

All in all, this post is just wishful thinking for Saints fans. None of these guys are coming back to play for the Saints while Brees is out. But is Teddy Bridgewater the answer?
