Who are the top 5 cornerbacks in the history of the New Orleans Saints?

Yesterday, we unveiled the five best receivers in franchise history.

Today, we move back to the defensive side of the ball.

1)---TRACY PORTER---After finishing his college career at Indiana, Porter was selected by the Saints in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft. After suffering a wrist injury that cut short his rookie season of 2008, Porter was a full-time starter for the Saints for the next three years, helping the team to the a Super Bowl XLIV win over the Indianapolis Colts in 2009. Porter is responsible for one of the most memorable plays in franchise history in that Super Bowl. late in the 4th quarter, with the Colts in Saints’ territory, Porter jumped Colts receiver Reggie Wayne’s route and intercepted Peyton Manning’s pass, returning it 74 yards for a touchdown, sealing the first ever championship for the franchise. A native of Port Allen, Louisiana, Porter left the Saints following the 2011 season to sign with the Denver Broncos. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Porter intercepted seven passes in his 43 career games with the Saints.

2)---DAVE WAYMER---After concluding his college career at Notre Dame, Waymer was selected by the Saints in the second round of the 1980 NFL Draft. A native of Brooklyn, New York, Waymer was a 10-year starter and one-time Pro Bowler (1987) for the Saints, accumulating 37 interceptions during his time with the franchise. After leaving the Saints following the 1989 season, Waymer played two seasons for the San Francisco 49ers and one season for the Los Angeles Raiders, his last game being played in 1992. Sadly, Waymer died during the offseason, passing away from a heart attack caused by cocaine use in April of 1993. Waymer, a 6-foot-1, 195-pounder, compiled 48 interceptions in 197 career NFL games. He ranks at the top, in terms of most interceptions in franchise history, with 37.

3)---DAVE WHITSELL---He played only three years for the Saints (1967-1969), but still ranks 5th on the franchise all-time interception list, with 19. He became the first member of the New Orleans franchise to play in the NFL's Pro Bowl game, after leading the entire league in 1967 in interceptions with 10. Whitsell was inducted into the New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame in 1996. Sadly, Whitsell died of cancer in 1999.

4)---MIKE MCKENZIE---After playing for the Packers for five-and-a-half years, McKenzie was traded to the Saints in 2004, where he became a fixture at cornerback, leading the club in interceptions from 2004-2008 with 12. A native of Miami, Florida, McKenzie compiled 174 tackles and 14 interceptions, including two touchdowns, during his time in New Orleans. McKenzie, a 6-foot, 195-pounder, accumulated 410 tackles and 28 career interceptions, including 4 touchdowns, in his 12-year NFL career. Had he not suffered two major injures, he would have been even better for the Saints. Still, he was very good.

5)---TOI COOK---Under-appreciated cornerback, Cook played for the Saints from 1987-1993, compiling 16 interceptions, which ranks 7th in franchise history. In his seven seasons in New Orleans, Cook, who the Saints drafted out of Stanford, also accumulated 294 tackles and 3 fumbles recoveries. The 5-foot-11, 188-pound Cook appeared in 101 games for the Saints, including 74 as a starter.
