TSA Urging Louisiana Travelers To ‘Get Real’ Sooner Than Later
At most places when we are asked to produce a legal ID most of us reach for our state-issued drivers license. In most cases, that is good enough. It's certainly good enough to buy some adult beverages or verify your identity for a credit card purchase but it might not be enough to get you on an airplane.
Officials with the Transportation and Security Administration are encouraging Louisiana residents to go now, while the lines aren't long, to obtain their Real ID. Granted you won't need a Real ID to fly domestically until October 1st of next year, you still want to go ahead and secure that.
Your only other option to fly domestically is to show your state-issued ID along with a valid passport for domestic travel. In order to get a Real ID you simply need to visit your hometown DMV office. You'll want to make sure that you bring the proper ID with you when you come.
Among the items you might need would be a passport, a birth certificate, proof of residency, and your social security card. Not all of these items might be necessary in your specific case but those are the items you'll want to begin looking for right now.
As of right now, only 10% of Louisiana residents are Real ID compliant. That means that 90% of us will be making a trip to the DMV before our next trip by plane or before October 1st.
