The 18th-ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns softball team continues to roll in league action, after sweeping a Sun Belt Conference doubleheader from the Georgia St. Panthers on Saturday at Lamson Park.

Louisiana captured the first game, 19-4, in 5-inning mercy-rule fashion, before taking the second game, 7-1.

The wins extended the Cajuns' current win streak to three games, and their home win streak to 9 games, while giving them 18 wins in their last 19 games, and 25 in their last 27.

UL has also now won 22 of their last 23 conference games, dating back to last season.

The two triumphs also guarantees Louisiana their 35th-consecutive league series victory, a school and Sun Belt Conference record.

The Cajuns haven’t lost a league series since 2013, when they dropped 2-of-3 to South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama.

In the opener, Louisiana got on the scoreboard first, and in a big way, scoring 13 runs in the bottom half of the first inning.

The first nine in the order all reached for the Cajuns, and all scored, as they sent 17 to the plate, banging out 13 runs on 11 hits.

The highlight of the inning were the back-to-back home runs by DJ Sanders, her 25th,  and Haley Hayden, her 10th.

Still, the entire batting order contributed to the 13-run opening inning, including Lexie Comeaux and Kassidy Zeringue, who both drove home two runs apiece with singles.

Georgia St. scored their first run in the top half of the second inning, before Louisiana answered right back with a homer by Sanders, her second of the game, and 26th of the year, to make it 14-1.

The 26 homers by Sanders are now the third most in a single season in UL softball history.

The Panthers trimmed the deficit with a run in the top of the third, before the Cajuns again returned the favor, plating a run on a run-scoring triple off the bat of Comeaux in the bottom half of the frame, to make it 15-2.

Louisiana scored their final four runs in the bottom half of the 4th inning, courtesy of a 3-run homer by Aleah Craighton, her 11th of the season, and a run scoring double from Kara Gremillion, to give the Cajuns 19 runs, the most they've ever scored against a Sun Belt Conference opponent at Lamson Park.

Georgia St. scored two runs in the top half of the 5th, but it wasn't close to being enough, as Louisiana went on to the lopsided 19-4, 5-inning, mercy-rule triumph.

Louisiana, who outhit Georgia St., 18-6, was led at the plate by Comeaux, who went 4-for-4, to go along with 2 runs scored and 3 runs batted in, Sanders, who went 3-3, including 2 homers and 5 RBI's, and Hayden and Craighton, who both homered homered, while Corin Voinche contributed 3 RBI's.

Macey Smith (4-1) recorded the win in the circle for the Cajuns, allowing only 2 runs on 5 hits in three innings of relief for the starter, Alex Stewart, who was lifted after retiring the side in order in the first inning, to save her for the rest of the series.

Peyton Worsham (4-2) suffered the loss for the Panthers, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits, without retiring a batter.

In the second game, again, it was Louisiana that got on the scoreboard first, plating two runs in the bottom half of the first inning, when Hayden drove home a run with a single, before Daniella Chavez plated a run with a sacrifice fly, to give them a quick 2-0 lead.

The Cajuns added two more runs in the bottom half of the 3rd inning, when Sanders blasted a 2-run homer, her third of the day, and her 27th of the season, to extend their advantage to 4-0.

Georgia St. got on the scoreboard in the top half of the 4th inning, when Ivie Drake hit a solo homer, her 5th of the year, to trim the deficit to 4-1.

The Cajuns put the game away in the bottom half of the 5th inning, scoring three times, all courtesy of a clutch two-out double off the bat of Comeaux, who drove in 4 runs in the game, and 7 on the day, to make it 7-1.

That would be all the Cajuns would need, as they cruised to the 6-run triumph.

Louisiana, who outhit Georgia St., 5-2, was led at the plate by Sanders, who hit the two-run homer in the bottom half of the 3rd inning.

Alex Stewart (13-3) picked up the win for the Cajuns, allowing only one run on 2 hits.

Kinsley Jennings (14-9) was hit with the loss for the Panthers, giving up 7 runs on 5 hits in 6 innings of work.

With the two wins, Louisiana improved to 35-6, overall, and 16-1 in league play, while Georgia St. dropped to 28-19, and 13-7, respectively.

The Cajuns now lead the all-time series against the Georgia St., 21-2, and have won their last 17-consecutive games against the Panthers.

The two teams will conclude the series with a single game on Sunday at 1 o’clock.
