The 19th-ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns softball team continues to roll in league action, after sweeping a Sun Belt Conference doubleheader from the Troy Trojans on Saturday at Lamson Park.

Louisiana captured the first game, 3-1, before taking the second game, 11-0, in 5-inning mercy-rule fashion.

The two wins extend the Cajuns’ current winning streak to 11 games, and their Sun Belt Conference win streak to 17 games, dating back to last season.

The two triumphs also guarantees Louisiana their 33rd-consecutive series victory, a school and Sun Belt Conference record.

The Cajuns haven’t lost a league series since 2013, when they dropped 2-of-3 to South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama.

In the opener, Troy got on the scoreboard first, scoring one run in the top half of the third inning, when Becca Hartley belted a solo home run, her 14th of the season, to give them a 1-0 lead.

Louisiana scored their first run of the game in the bottom half of the third inning, when Daniella Chavez drove home a run with a two-out infield single, to tie the game, 1-1.

The Cajuns took their first lead of the contest in the bottom half of the 5th inning when they delivered back-to-back home runs, courtesy of Haley Hayden, her 7th of the season, and Aleah Craighton, her 8th, to give them a 3-1 advantage.

That would be all that the Cajuns would need, as they went on to the 2-run win.

Louisiana, who outhit Troy, 7-4, was led at the play by Hayden, who went 1-for-2 with a home run, and Craighton, who went 1-for-3, including a homer.

Alyssa Denham (11-1) recorded the win in the circle for the Cajuns, allowing only one run on four hits in 7 innings.

Claire Graves (7-6) suffered the loss for the Trojans, allowing 7 hits and 3 earned runs in 4.2 innings of work.

In the second game, it was Louisiana that got on the scoreboard first, and in a big way, plating four runs on five hits in the bottom half of the opening inning, including run-scoring singles from Hayden and Lexie Comeaux, and a two-run single from Corin Voinche, to grab a quick 4-0 advantage.

UL extended their advantage in the bottom half of the 2nd inning, when Craighton blasted a two-out two-run homer, her second of the day, and 9th of the year, to widen their lead to 6-0.

The Cajuns put the game away in the bottom half of the 3rd inning, scoring 5 runs on 3 hits, including a solo homer by Voinche, her first of the year, as well as a grand slam homer by DJ Sanders, her 18th of the season, to widen to lead to 11-0.

That would be all the Cajuns would need, as they cruised to the 11-run, 5-inning mercy-rule triumph.

Louisiana, who outhit Troy, 12-2, was led at the plate by Kara Gremillion, Craighton, Sanders, and Voinche, who all had two hits apiece, while Craighton, Sanders, and Voinche all homered.

Alex Stewart (13-3) picked up the win for the Cajuns, tossing three hitless innings.

Meg Willis (1-2) was hit with the loss for the Trojans, giving up 4 runs on 5 hits in one inning of work.

With the two wins, Louisiana improved to 28-5, overall, and 11-0 in league play, while Troy dropped to 16-24, and 4-11, respectively.

The Cajuns now lead the all-time series against the Troy, 33-5.

The two teams will conclude the series with a single game on Sunday at noon.
