UL’s Alyssa Denham Wins Major National Honor
The accolades continue to pour in for Louisiana Ragin' Cajun softball pitcher Alyssa Denham.
Recently named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week, the freshman right-hander was also named USA Softball Collegiate National Player of the Week on Tuesday.
A product of Pearland (Texas) High School, Denham becomes the fourth UL softball player in program history to win the award, joining Danyele Gomez (2005), Christi Orgeron (2012), and Lexie Elkins (2016).
Starting against #4 Alabama on Sunday in the rubber game of a three-game non-conference series, Denham was masterful, limiting the Crimson Tide to just two hits in helping Louisiana to a 7-0 shutout win, the first time this season, and only the second time in a non-conference regular season game since 2015, that Alabama was held scoreless.
Denham held Alabama without a hit over the last five innings, and did not allow a runner to reach third base all day.
Over the weekend series with Alabama, in which the Cajuns won two of the three tilts, Denham tossed 12 innings, holding the Crimson Tide to just five hits and one earned, run to finish the three-game series with a 0.58 ERA.
