The age at which an individual is considered an adult in the eyes of the law, or the "age of majority," is 18 in most states, including Louisiana.

The law may say you're an adult when you turn 18, but according to a study done by CBS/Nielsen, millennials don't consider themselves an adult until years later.

According to, the three year CBS/Nielsen study was done to take a look "at data about millennial trends for advertising purposes". The research ended up providing a lot of insight into when millennials finally feel like an adult and the answer is surprising.

Most millennials don't consider themselves an adult until they are 30, with some people even saying that 40 was the age that you are truly an adult.

40 seems a little ridiculous, but as my 30th birthday draws closer I can't help but feel like I still have not reached true adult status in my own life. Which got me thinking does anyone ever really feel like an adult?

If I were to list all of the "adult" things in my life it definitely looks like I'm an adult. I mean, I have a job, a car, I'm married, I have two dogs, I pay all my bills, I cook dinner more than I get take out, I watch HGTV and Food Network an embarrassing amount, and I get excited over things like a new lawn mower and throw pillows.

That's some pretty adult stuff right there, but at the same time I don't have kids, I sometimes get too drunk in public, I watch YA movies and feel like I can completely relate to all of their high school woes. I legit have to stop myself from saying things like "the dude in '13 Reasons Why' is attractive", because he's actually the same age as my little brother and that is just not ok.

Will I ever become more adult and stop doing the things that completely diminish any adult-ness I might possess? Maybe. Maybe not. Or maybe that's the secret no one wants to admit or talk about, you never feel like an adult.

As you get older you might get better at doing adult things, but maybe you never feel like you've reached full blown adult status and that any minute someone will find out that you've been faking your way through adulthood. Or maybe that's just me. But, hey, "fake it 'til you make it", right?
