Louisiana State Police says 52-year-old Linda Rogers of New Iberia died just before 2 o'clock this morning after she crossed the centerline of Highway 86, overcorrected, and ended up with the vehicle on its roof and her on the road next to it.

Police say Rogers was driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer eastbound on the highway near Crochet road when all of this happened. The woman did have her seatbelt on so police are investigating how the woman ended up next to her car.

They say she was not thrown out of the vehicle.

The woman was declared dead by the Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office, and they are continuing the investigation into her exact cause of death.

State Police says impairment is suspected to be a factor in the crash, and routine toxicology samples were taken for analysis at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.

Troop I has investigated 23 fatal crashes resulting in 23 deaths so far in 2016.
