The unofficial Roundabout Capital of the World is getting yet another one.

The city of Youngsville is planning to build a new roundabout at the intersection of Chemin Metairie Parkway and Detente Road. The project will cost a cool $1.7 million.

Traffic continues to increase in that neck of the woods mainly due to the Youngsville Sports Complex along with new neighborhoods.

“It’s going to improve the safety of this intersection and it’s also going to accommodate the continued growth of our city,” said Youngsville Mayor Ken Ritter.

This particular roundabout will also improve visibility. The intersection sits higher than the rest of the road so it can be a bit difficult for drivers to see oncoming traffic from Chemin Metairie.

The city is taking out a 15-year bond issue to pay for the roundabout and other road improvements. According to the mayor, the new roundabout is possible because sales tax is up about 19 percent from last year.

Construction should begin in November or December of 2018. Completion date has yet to be determined.
