The spread of Coronavirus has officials in communities across Acadiana making changes.

Just yesterday, Lafayette Mayor-President Josh Guillory ask the public to refrain from any mass gatherings through this Sunday.

Angola State Penitentiary officials announced changes to their visitation policies, and now Acadia Parish is following suit.

You will still be able to have video visitation with someone at the Acadia Parish Jail, but all non-essential people will be barred from the facility for the next thirty days according to the Sheriff.

Sheriff K.P. Gibson says they are simply following the guidelines set forth by the Louisiana Department of Corrections in response to the possible spread of Coronavirus.

This means that even ministry groups will not be allowed in their facility.

Also, if you were going to the jail for application fingerprinting, they have shut down this process for the next thirty days.

Officials with the Sheriff's Department want the public to know they are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but this is the plan they will follow.

What will happen after that thirty day time period will have to be determined at that time.
