When life hands you lemons, you make lemonade! We've all heard, and said that oh so southern saying, but the folks at Country Living Magazine have found waaaaaay more things to do with our favorite yellow citrus fruit. I love these!!

 

  • Use an an appetite suppressant - lemon in water before you eat curbs your cravings
  • Wash Produce - lemon juice, water, and vinegar are really good at taking off the grime of grocery store produce
  • Fight a cold - hot tea with lemon, or a citrus hot toddy works wonders on a cold, with the extra vitamin C
  • Insect repellent - spray lemon juice around doors and windows in the kitchen to keep away ants
  • Jello shots - hollow out lemon halves, and pour the booze in for a pretty alcoholic treat!
  • Clean your microwave - cut up a lemon, put it in water, and boil. Let sit for 15 minutes, then wipe down your sparkling clean microwave
  • Lighten your hair - use lemons as a natural highlighter, when you spritz on strands of your hair
  • Salad dressing - whip lemon juice, zest, olive oil and a few herbs, and you've got a gourmet homemade dressing
  • Deodorize your garbage disposal - thrown a couple of lemon wedges in, and turn it on, for a sweet smelling sink
  • Settle your stomach - make some detox lemonade with lemon juice, honey, cayenne, clove and ginger. This mix also relieves gas
  • Get rid of clothing stains - rub lemon juice and salt into a stain and let sit for 30 minutes
  • Use as a nail buffer - mix lemon juice and baking soda together, make a paste, and buff your nails to a shine
  • Make buttermilk - lemon juice added to regular milk can be a substitute in a pinch
  • Clean your cutting board - sprinkle salt or baking soda on a board, then rub with a half cut lemon to take away odors
  • Clean kitchen fixtures - cabinet pulls and chrome faucets can be cleaned thoroughly with lemon juice, which takes away the residue and grime
  • Get rid of hiccups - angostura bitters sprinkled on a lemon slice will cure a case of the hiccups when sucked on
  • Get rid of dandruff - lemon added to water and used a rinse will balance your PH, and keep flakes away
  • Make your house smell wonderful - add lemons and other spices to water, simmer, and enjoy the sweet aromas wafting throughout your home
  • Kill weeds - spray lemon juice on unwanted weeds. The acidity will keep them from growing
  • Deodorize your dishwasher - cut up lemons and put in the utensil tray when running a regular wash cycle for dishes
  • Make lemonade - of course!
