Butterfly Effect Project Gears Up for Free Dress Event
Dinner, dates, dancing--these are just some of the things that a high school senior might need for a prom night to remember. But, before the promposals, before the planning, before the hair, the makeup, the jewelry; a high school girl needs a dress.
However, those who have ever been dress shopping knows that it can be a bit pricey and for some, a prom dress is just something that is not currently in the budget.
This issue has not gone unnoticed and there is one Lafayette organization that seeks to lessen the financial and social burden on high school girls and their families.
The Butterfly Effect Project of Lafayette is designed to make sure that any girl who would like to attend prom can regardless of their financial situation.
Kisharra Angelety who involved with the project said,
"Many families simply cannot afford to 'keep up.' For those who have dreamed of that night, not being able to afford a dress should not stop them. The Butterfly Effect Project aims to help ease the financial burdens while boosting self-esteem, confidence, and relieving social anxieties. It's more than a free dress, for some, it's ensuring a lifetime of memories."
The organization is currently accepting gently used formal donations that can be dropped off at the following locations:
- Bonnie’s Shoetique, Northgate Mall, 1800 NE Evangeline Throughway, Lafayette
- Cajun Creations Gifts & More, 600 St. Landry Street, Lafayette
- New Day Community Outreach, 800 W Congress Street, Suite B or C, Lafayette
- Ann Raush State Farm Insurance, 810 S St. Blaise Lane, Suite F, Youngsville
The Prom Dress Giveaway event will take place on February 16 at Northgate Mall from 11 am to 5 pm. The organization invites all high school girls with a student ID to come on out and pick out the dress of their dreams.
