Most of us can't remember what we had for breakfast a few hours ago much less what we were doing 35 years ago. However, chances are if you lived in Lafayette in 1984 then you were probably buzzing about a new free music event that was scheduled for the downtown area.

That music event, Downtown Alive! has grown into a three and half decade cavalcade of who's who in Acadiana's music scene. This Friday night we'll all celebrate that musical legacy and musical heritage when Downtown Alive! presents its 35 ALIVE Extravaganza.

It might be easier to list the names of performers who won't be on stage because the list is long and amazing. I am not sure how many Grammy nominees and Grammy winners will be performing but there will be several.

Among the names you'll know that will be on stage at Parc International beginning at 6:00 this Friday evening are TK Hulin, Wayne Toups, Michael Doucet, Chubby Carrier, Sonny Landreth, Ward Lormand, Charlene Howard, Mike Burch, Tony Ardoin, Steve Grisaffe, Richard Comeaux, Bubba Boudreaux, Larry Badon, Jason Parfait, 504 Horns ft. Jason Parfait & Jimmie Reamey, Steve Adams, D'Jalma Garnier, Mark Willis, Suzi Aycock, Dana Duhon, Kathy Sherman, and Kat Terrebonne.

Remember DTA! is more than just a free music event. There are food and drinks available for purchase. Your patronage helps keep the event free so don't be "that guy" and sneak your beer and bologna into the park just to save a few bucks.

Remember the fun starts at 5:00 with the Happiest Hour and there's also DTA! Kids at the Children's Museum. That begins at 6:00. Then following the performances in Parc International there is the official after party at The Pearl.
