Tragic news being reported about a Texas family of six suspected of drowning in their van Sunday afternoon while trying to escape the floods of Hurricane Harvey. There were four children, ages 6 to 16 years of age.

KHOU in Houston reports the driver of the vehicle, the children's great-uncle, managed to escape by clinging to a tree branch before the van went under water.

The driver of the van, Sammy Salvidar told Houston police he was driving the van Sunday when rising water from the flood quickly overcame the van.

"The van was swept up in the current, and the driver was able to crawl out. He told the children inside to try and get out through the back door, but they were unable to. According to family members, the van quickly sank with everyone inside."
