Scientists can point to a lot of reasons why this year's Atlantic Hurricane Season has been below average and expectations so far. Everything from cooler sea surface temperatures to upper level windshear, to Saharan dust, has played a part in keeping this season from being so active.

Mother Nature is now saying " Not so fast my friends". and as a reminder, there is now a new area of disturbed weather that has tropical forecasters casting a wary eye toward the central Atlantic Ocean just east of the Windward Islands.

Forecasters with the National Hurricane Center are only giving this system a 20% chance or less of development over the next five days. You can thank some of the reasons we listed above for the lack of development.

Just because the season has been quiet doesn't mean it will stay that way. We aren't even halfway through the season and the statistical peak of the season September 10th is a little less than a month away. We all know it only takes one hurricane to make for a memorable season. Or in the case of the Houston area one tropical storm, whether it be Harvey or Allison, we still remember those.
