St. Landry Parish Sheriff's detectives arrested an Opelousas man after they say he falsely represented himself to a commissioned police officer.

Sheriff Bobby Guidroz says they arrested Ryan Scott McCauley after an investigation where an area law enforcement officer recorded McCauley claiming he worked for St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office.

The investigation began after McCauley had done some work at this officer's relative's home. After the two were talking, McCauley showed him his commission card on his phone.

While McCauley was employed by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office, his employment was terminated in March of this year.

Following this information coming out, the Sheriff's Office received several other calls about McCauley claiming to these individuals that he was a law enforcement officer.

He was arrested on one count of "Fraudulent Portrayal Of a Peace Officer" after investigators had a conversion with him.

McCauley claimed he might have said he was an officer because the other man, a deputy, might have scared him.

He was confronted with the recording of him saying he worked for the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office, and when his phone was searched, detectives found a picture of his old commission card.
