If you live in the city of Lafayette, or the unincorporated areas, you can get rid of a bunch of things junking up your garage, yard or storage room.

This Saturday, Lafayette Consolidated Government will hold their Household Hazardous Waste Day.

This is the time of year that you can put unwanted items (that are on the list) into your car, drive it all over to Cajun Field and let the government people take it away.

And this year, there are even more things that will be accepted like fluorescent tubes, alkaline batteries, t.v.'s and CRT monitors.

Some of your junk will even be repurposed. Like paint that you bring, it will be blended and package to be sold by Lafayette Habitat For Humanity's ReStore. Your old electronics will be fixed up for people in our community who can't afford those types of items.

To see a complete list of what you can and can't bring go to http://www.lafayettela.gov.

Again, you must live in the city limits of Lafayette or the unincorporated areas in order to use this service from 8 a.m. to noon this Saturday. They will be checking addresses via your driver's license.

This is a free event. You should enter Cajun Field from the West Congress side.

Anyone with questions can call 291-5637.
