The National Weather Service in Lake Charles has issued a Flash Flood Warning for parts of Vermilion Parish early this morning. A persistent band of showers and thundershowers with moderate to heavy rain has been falling across Vermilion Parish for most of the early morning hours.

Weather Service radars estimate that three inches of rain has already fallen over the warned area and there is the potential for even more rainfall over the next few hours. IN fact, the warned area which includes the cities of Abbeville, Meaux, Forked Island, and Esther could see an additional two inches of rainfall in the next few hours.

The current radar scan from the National Weather Service office in Lake Charles shows where the heaviest rainfall is occurring at this moment.

A cold front moving through the area is the catalyst for all of the shower and thundershower activity we can expect across South Louisiana today and the next several days. The frontal passage should bring cooler temperatures and lower humidity for the area. However, the front will not push all the way through the region and this will allow for the threat of lingering showers across the area throughout the work week.
