There will be an event this Friday and Saturday aimed at helping build up Freshwater Bayou.

Want to help? It's easy. Volunteers are needed this Friday and Saturday to help the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana plant 55,000 plugs of native marsh grass.

Volunteers are needed to plant this Friday, April 29 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Saturday, April 30 during the same period of time.

This area, according to CPRA, has been ravaged by storm surge damage and no sediment input, so the plantings are desperately needed. Imagine how much damage was done by Hurricane Rita in 2005.

By doing this work, Vermilion Parish will have better protection from storms in the future. It's easy to volunteer. All you have to do is register at crcl.org/calendar/events.

Volunteers will be meeting Vermilion Boat Launch near Pecan Island.
