Thank goodness we don't have to worry about startling you with that kind of information because, just as you suspected, it's going to cost more to outfit elementary, middle, high school, and college students for heading back to class in about a month.

The website Statista examined the anticipated back-to-school spending per household across the United States. What they found was that in 2015 the cost of going back to class actually did take a dive. Back then the average anticipated expenditure for a single student was listed at $630.36.

Since 2015 back-to-school costs have been on the increase. In 2020, we assume because of the pandemic, the cost jumped from $696.70 in 2019 to $789.49 at the beginning of the pandemic year. Costs for sending kids back to school have been on the increase since then.

For 2023 Statista suggests that parents will be investing some $890.07 into the items their student needs for back-to-school. For parents, the largest expenses will come in the form of electronics and computer-related equipment.
