How ‘Cool’ Will Louisiana Cold Front Make it Feel This Weekend?

You probably heard the rumblings from Shreveport Louisiana in the northwest to Golden Meadow Louisiana in the southeast as they first started last week. The rumblings were about something that Louisiana residents have been waiting for since last April, namely a cold front and finally a real break in what has been a brutal summer across the Gulf South.

Since the calendar officially flipped to October over the weekend we can actually start to believe some of the forecasts that involved cold fronts making their way through Louisiana. For most of the summer months, the typical weather pattern prevents cooler drier air from pushing across the state. Instead, we get lots of heat, lots of humidity, and most of the time afternoon showers or thunderstorms.

But this summer the storms didn't materialize and most of Louisiana finds itself in a situation where cooler temperatures are wanted but rainfall is what's really needed. Here's the latest look at drought conditions across the area. As you can see, the rainfall is what we really need from this front.

When Will it Get Cooler in Louisiana?

The National Weather Service Forecast Office in Lake Charles is suggesting that Thursday is when we will begin to see changes in the current weather pattern. There is a chance of showers that will push into Louisiana on Thursday. That chance of rain will remain across the region through Friday.

The high temperature on Friday is forecast to be about 88, that's not really that cool. But the low on Friday night will be in the middle 60s. That will make it feel very fall-like. The forecast for Saturday and Sunday calls for afternoon high temperatures in the lower 80s and overnight lows near 60.

The forecast service Accu-Weather echoes what the NWS forecast is saying but they are a bit more aggressive on their cooler temperatures. Accu-Weather is forecasting a low Saturday morning in the middle 50s which should have gumbo pots clanging by college football kickoff times on Saturday afternoon.

Another forecast service, Time and Date, is even more aggressive with its forecast for cooler temperatures. Their outlook is calling for a low of 52 degrees on Sunday morning. Which would really bring out the jackets, Ugg Boots, and space heaters in time for church.

Meanwhile, KATC's Storm Team Three forecast seems to be floating right in the middle of all of these solutions. The TV 3 outlook suggests an afternoon high of 82 on Saturday with a Sunday morning low of 58.

So, how "cool" will Louisiana's cold front make it feel this weekend? The short answer is "cool enough for the A/C to stop running".  But, don't expect too much more than that. Oh, and for your gumbo this weekend.
