Over 400,000 Ford Broncos Sold in Louisiana, Texas Recalled

Ford has issued a recall for over 456,000 Bronco vehicles sold in Louisiana and nationwide due to a battery detection issue that poses a potential safety risk.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that "An insufficient calibration strategy for detecting sudden battery degradations during a drive cycle can lead to (a) a vehicle that is unable to restart after an auto start/stop event or (b) experience a stall while coming to a stop at low speed. Either may be accompanied by a loss of 12-volt accessories, including hazard lights."

Essentially if the driver is unaware that their battery did not fully charge, the vehicle's risk of crashing increases due to the sudden loss of power.

What Ford Bronco Model is Being Recalled?

The recall includes 403,000 Bronco Sports spanning model years 2021 to 2024, manufactured between February 2020 and March 2024. Additionally, more than 53,000 model year 2022-2023 Mavericks produced from February 2021 to October 2022 are also included in the recall.

Ford dealers will recalibrate the affected vehicles' body and power train control modules at no expense to owners. Notification letters are scheduled to be sent out on May 13, according to an NHSTA recall acknowledgment letter.

A this time, the software update necessary for the recalibration is not yet available. However, it is expected to be rolled out later in the second quarter. A spokesperson from Ford emphasized Ford's commitment to safety.

Safety is a top priority, and we are taking proactive measures to address this issue promptly and effectively.

While there have been no reported injuries related to the battery detection issue, Ford has received 917 warranty reports, 11 field reports, and 54 customer complaints.

Previous Bronco Recall

In addition, the NHTSA announced an investigation into Ford's previous recall involving nearly 43,000 Bronco Sport and Escape SUVs. The initial recall was issued due to the risk of gasoline leaking from the fuel injectors onto hot engine surfaces, potentially leading to fires. However, the NHTSA expressed concerns that their solution did not properly fix the fuel leaks directly.
