An exciting town hall meeting hosted by the Lafayette Parish School Board was held Monday night where the official plans for Lafayette High School were presented to the public for the first time. Justin Centanni, a member of the school board, shared photos on Facebook that show the results of the collaborative effort between the LHS community and LPSS.

They have completely reenvisioned LHS based on feedback from the students and faculty. Based on the designs Centanni shared, it looks so much brighter and more sophisticated. It's easy to envision students and faculty thriving on such a beautifully thought-out campus. The new LHS building will be three stories creating more space for over 52 classrooms and labs.

We’re going to see designs of the interior of the school. Up until now it’s really just been the exterior of the school and the site layout. We’ll get to see the interior of the new school building, a detailed construction timeline of exactly what we can expect and when over the next couple of years

They hope to restore the heart of Lafayette High School and preserve the 60 years of history that lies within its walls. In order to better serve the students and faculty of Lafayette High they pooled all 2,000 students and teachers to get their feedback on what they would like to see and how life on campus could be improved.

We poled all 2,000 students at Lafayette High, we poled all of the teachers to see what they wanted, and how the facility can best meet the needs of education in the twenty-first century. We had a steering committee made up of alumni and administrators at Lafayette High to make sure that we were capturing the soul of Lafayette High, and not making drastic changes as we move into a new phase

Now the school board is ready to share what they have in store for the high school and its community. Centanni told KLFY 10 that the goal is to have everything completed and ready for students and faculty by the spring of 2025.

LOOK: See how much gasoline cost the year you started driving

To find out more about how has the price of gas changed throughout the years, Stacker ran the numbers on the cost of a gallon of gasoline for each of the last 84 years. Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (released in April 2020), we analyzed the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline from 1976 to 2020 along with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for unleaded regular gasoline from 1937 to 1976, including the absolute and inflation-adjusted prices for each year.

Read on to explore the cost of gas over time and rediscover just how much a gallon was when you first started driving.
