Lafayette Police named the man connected with the hit-and-run incident that allegedly took place during Festival International 2018.

As Festival was wrapping up on Sunday, April 29 around 5:20 p.m. police say a man was driving down Congress Street in Downtown Lafayette near the Children's Museum in an area that was closed off to thru traffic.

According to KATC, Police say the man was driving an older model suburban, and while officers tried to talk to him about being in a closed area the driver "suddenly began to flee, traveling directly toward crowds of people and with no regard to life."

Information obtained via a public records request revealed the name of the man who was issued multiple citations for the incident.

Zachery Kynard, 26, of Lafayette, was issued citations for hit-and-run driving, disobeying a police officer, no proof of insurance, reckless operation, operating a vehicle with a suspended driver's license, careless operation and disobeying a stop sign.

Lafayette Police say that Kynard also hit a vehicle at Sixth Street and the Evangeline Thruway during his getaway.

This is the second of the two major Festival incidents that Lafayette Police has solved, backing their promise of zero tolerance as a result of an increased presence during the annual free festival.
