Lafayette’s Former Health Clinic To Reopen Under Lafayette General Umbrella

When Medicaid coverage in Louisiana was expanded in 2016, many of the patient population of Lafayette's Community Health Care Clinic were able to get insurance, and LCHCC closed.

Now Lafayette General will be taking over the facility to turn it into the Lafayette General Healthcare Clinic to serve people in the Downtown, Freetown and Port Rico areas of town who need a primary care physician.

While many people may use the facilities at University Hospital & Clinics, they wait for an appointment for a primary care physician can take months.

The new facility is expected to open in the third quarter of 2020, with half of the one million dollars wanted through fundraising already raised.

The Lafayette Community Health Care Clinic had served the uninsured for twenty-five years. After they closed, they donated the building and assets to the Lafayette General Foundation.

University Hospital & Clinics CEO Katie Hebert says,

The Lafayette General Healthcare Clinic will reopen with two to four clinicians, providing access to primary care to an additional 10,000 - 15,000 Acadiana residents. When it opens, the clinic will be well-appointed with the equipment of a modern-day health center.

The facility will serve patients with private insurance and Medicaid.
