Legal Repercussions For Those Who Call In Hoaxes On 9/11 Anniversary

Louisiana State Police has a message for anyone trying to call in a hoax on the thirteenth anniversary of the terrorist attacks that killed more than 3,000 people: just don't do it.

State Police Troop I spokesperson Brooks David said anyone who attempts to create such a situation will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

"It's a federal offense," David said.

That warning comes after a text message received by residents in St. Mary Parish--that text urged residents to seek shelter because a nearby plant was allegedly leaking toxic fumes--turned out to be fake.

No problems have been reported at the plant in question.
