Many reported hearing a loud boom late Monday night and now we know what caused it.

KATC TV-3 reports that the Louisiana State Police's emergency services squad was dispatched to an area in St. Martin Parish Monday night and they detonated on an old piece of military equipment.

The boom shook homes around 10 pm and many thought that it may have been caused by a sonic boom, but that was not the case.

I heard the loud boom in Lafayette late Monday night, thus it must have been REALLY LOUD for those of you in St. Martin Parish.

No one was reportedly injured in the controlled explosion.
