LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) — Construction is scheduled to begin next fall on a 60,000-square-foot National Guard readiness center at an airport in Lake Charles.

Officials say the Lake Charles Readiness Center at Chennault International Airport will be the future home of multiple Louisiana National Guard units whose armory was damaged during Hurricane Laura.

It's expected to provide space for training, administrative duties and material storage for the assigned National Guard units.

Officials say designs for the project are about 60% complete.
