The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office is warning citizens of a phone scam that has been reported to their office.

According to KATC-TV 3, the person calling identifies himself as Lieutenant Johnson with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office.

He then proceeds to tell those who answer that if they do not pay a $1,500 fine within 30 minutes, they will be arrested. The number the scammer calls from is (337) 829-7909.

If you receive a call like this please contact the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office at (337) 232 9211.

LPSO reminds you that they will never call you to collect fines and offer you the option to pay over the phone.  Be smart and never give out personal information over the phone.
