The entire world, let alone the softball world, suffered a major loss recently.

Alex Wilcox, a Mississippi State softball player who had a two-year battle with cancer, died Monday night. She was 18.

Wilcox was diagnosed with ovarian cancer before her junior season at Brantley (Ala.) High School in 2016.

In 2014, Wilcox committed to Mississippi State, after leading Wilcox to their first state championship.

Wilcox played in 16 games this season as a freshman at Mississippi State, but she'll mostly be remembered for her courage, and for sparking cancer-awareness.

Our thoughts and payers go out to her family, friends, and all those that she touched.

The softball world mourned the death of a courageous young lady on Tuesday:
