Former Washington state NAACP official Rachel Dolezal is facing felony theft charges for welfare fraud.

Dolezal, who legally changed her name to Nkechi Diallo back in 2016, is most known for being outed as a white woman pretending to be black back in 2015. She was charged with theft by welfare fraud as well as perjury and false verification for public assistance, this according to KHQ-TV.

She illegally received $8,747 in food assistance and $100 in child care assistance from August 2015 through November 2017, court documents said.

Diallo recently wrote a book, but according to records, her reported income was "usually less than $500 per month. This prompted a Washington state investigator to dig a little deeper since similar book deals paid out a lot more than that.

A subpoena for her self-employment records, which included copies of her bank statements, showed Diallo had deposited nearly $84,000 into her bank account between August 2015 and September 2017, without reporting it to the Department of Social and Health Services.

In addition to her memoir, "In Full Color," Diallo received money for speaking engagements, the sale of her art, and other things she publicly acknowledged on her social media.

Court documents did show a deposit in October 2017 worth $20,000, reported as a "change of circumstance." Diallo believes that she "fully disclosed her information," refusing to answer any more questions.

This is just the latest issue with a woman who is no stranger to controversy. Up until 2015, Diallo (known then as Dolezal) identified publicly as a black woman. The bottom fell out of her scam when she was pressured by reporters and eventually outed by her parents, who confirmed she was born white but had be representing herself as a black activist around the Spokane area.

Once the story caught fire, Dolezal was fired as head of the local NAACP chapter and lost her job teaching African studies at a local university.

Recently, Diallo appeared in a Netflix documentary titled "The Rachel Divide." Her next appearance will be in court on June 6 where she will receive a formal reading of her charges.

Diallo faces up to 15 years in prison.
