Days after announcing an advanced-stage cancer diagnosis, radio icon Rush Limbaugh was awarded the highest civilian honor during the State of the Union address. President Trump, assisted by First Lady Melania Trump, awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Limbaugh. The presentation, which was not expected to happen during the State of the Union, clearly took the veteran broadcaster by surprise.

The roller-coaster week for Rush started with an emotional announcement on his show that he is being treated for stage 4 lung cancer. The show has been a fixture in Acadiana since 1988 when his newly-syndicated show premiered on KPEL-FM.
