A proposed deal for the New Orleans Saints recently fell through.

The Saints apparently had a deal in place with the San Francsico 49ers for linebacker NaVorro Bowman, that would have sent the 49ers a seventh-round draft pick.

The news was reported by ESPN.

Ultimately, the deal collapsed, as Bowman preferred to be released, and become a free agent, and the 49ers agreed to his wishes, as a reward for his services.

The Saints became interested in Bowman, after rookie linebacker Alex Anzalone was lost for the season with a shoulder injury in a 20-0 win over the Miami Dolphins in London.

Bowman, who is currently a free agent, is a three-time Pro Bowl selection (2012, 2013, & 2015) who was drafted in the third-round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the 49ers.

This season, Bowman has compiled 22 tackles in five games.
