A cold front approaching Acadiana from the northwest will run headlong into a low-pressure system moving northward out of the Gulf of Mexico this weekend. If you're wondering where those two weather makers will meet, just look out your window.

Forecasters with the Storm Prediction Center are not predicting a severe weather outbreak with these two systems combining energy over the Gulf South this weekend. They are predicting soaking rainfall for the area, especially along the Upper Texas Coast and across Coastal Louisiana.

Some computer models suggest rainfall totals of four to five inches will be common from Lafayette eastward to Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Other forecast models don't have quite that much rain coming down across the area but they all suggest you're going to want your rain gear on Saturday.

The rain should move out of the area during the day on Sunday with calmer and cooler weather expected for the early part of next week. Forecasters are also watching for the potential of another Arctic Blast for the area by late this week into early next week.

Some of the long-range forecast models are suggesting that another dip below freezing could move into Acadiana over Mardi Gras. However, that forecast is subject to change and will be fine-tuned as we get closer to Fat Tuesday.
