Strippers Perform at Funerals in Taiwan [VIDEO]
What’s the wackiest thing you’ve heard lately?
Here are two words that can probably top that: funeral strippers.
In rural parts of Taiwan, hiring strippers to dance at a funeral is as normal as hiring a singer. For a small fee, the exotic dancers — all women — perform for mourners on the back of a diesel truck named the Electric Flower Car.
This practice is documented in Marc L Moskowitz’s new film ‘Dancing For the Dead: Funeral Strippers in Taiwan.’ While working on the film, Moskowitz was given different reasons why people hire funeral strippers. They ranged from spiritual (the performances distract older ghosts from picking on the lower ghosts) to reasonable (the deceased person enjoyed watching strippers when alive) to baffling (the X-rated entertainment is a bribe to get a bunch of mourners to show up).
Funeral strippers have been sending the deceased off in Taiwan since the early 1980s.
