You still have plenty of days to vote early for the November 3 election. Early voting continues through Tuesday, October 27 this year. Voting locations will be open from 8 a.m. through 7 p.m. excluding Sunday.  If you live in Lafayette Parish, you have three locations now where you can cast your ballot.

Normally, early voting has only been allowed at the Lafayette Registrar of Voters Office, but now there are three early voting locations.

  • Lafayette Registrar of Voters Office, 1010 Lafayette St.
  • Martin Luther King Center, 309 Cora Street
  • East Regional Library, 215 La Neuville Road in Youngsville.

Lafayette Parish Clerk of Court Louis Perret told KPEL Monday that he thinks, based on early voting numbers, that voting for the upcoming election on Tuesday, November 3 will be beyond brisk.

Perret says that he believes there is a possibility that voting for this election could be higher than the turnout in the last election. For the 2016 election Perret says that 2/3 of registered voters in Lafayette Parish voted in the election. The only other time there was higher voter participation was the race for Governor in 1991. In that race, former Governor Edwin Edwards faced off against David Duke. At that time, seventy-seven percent of registered voters in the parish cast a vote in that election.

One of the biggest things that Perret wants to stress to voters is to study the candidates and issues before they go into the voting booth because the ballot is long. He reminds everyone that people have sacrificed so much, including their lives, to make sure that our right to vote is upheld.
