While much of the attention of the national media for the past few days has been focused on Hurricane Dorian off the east coast of Florida. Now, might be the time for folks like you and me to consider tropical formation that is considerably closer to home.

The National Hurricane Center is currently monitoring a large low-pressure system that is centered in the western Gulf of Mexico. This system has been given an 80% probability of developing into a tropical cyclone by Friday.

The current forecast track of the system carries it slowly to the west or southwest over the next several days. If the system stays on this track it should interact with the coastline of Mexico near week's end.

The latest run of the EURO Model confirms that thinking. However, the EURO Model also shows another couple of interesting features developing in the tropical Atlantic for later in the week. Those features would be tropical waves rolling off the African continent in the lower latitudes. These storm systems could be worth watching by the time we get into this weekend.
