Did you know the word "OK" actually stands for something? What started as a joke back in the 1830s has become what is considered to be the most recognized word in the world. It also proves that the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Much like the text abbreviations we use today like LOL and ROFL, the word OK started out as just that. According to Vox, the word OK "actually started out as a language fad in the 1830’s of abbreviating words incorrectly."

Like the hip kids today intentionally misspell words like "Kewl", OK meant "All Correct" or rather "Oll Korrect"

In the early 1800s, "All Correct" was a term used to say that everything was in order. In 1839 the Boston Morning Post published "O.K." for the first time, and it soon was being published in papers all over the Country. Yes, it essentially went viral.

With the invention of the telegraph, the word "OK" was here to stay. It was a quick and easy way to communicate that everything was all good.

We like to think that in 2018 we are so different than we were in the 1800s. In reality, we're still the same. Slang shorthand for hip insiders and viral terms have been going on forever, it just happens a little differently today.
