Due to mandates by the state of Louisiana for people not to congregate in mass settings because of Coronavirus, there have been some changes to the way the Lafayette City and Parish Council conduct participation tonight.

Yes, there will be a meeting, but several items have been deferred.

Yes, you can physically attend the meeting, but there is going to be the five minute rule that is in effect.

In addition to that, you are being asked to show up for at least thirty minutes before the meeting you want to attend because you will need to be screened by a health official before you go into the meeting. If you are showing any signs of symptoms, including a temperature about 100.4 degrees, then you will not be able to physically participate in the meetings.

Officials say that because of the need for social distancing, the citizens who will be coming to these meetings will encounter limited seating in the auditorium.

If you are planning to attend tonight, there will be a change in which way you will be entering into Lafayette City Hall to participate in the meetings. You are asked to use the entrance to the building that is on the West University side.

There is another way to take part in tonight's meeting, but you do not want to physically go to the meeting, then you can email your questions/comments to CouncilComments@LafayetteLA.gov, but you need to do this before 5 o'clock this afternoon. Now if you want to call in your questions/comments, you can do that before 5 o'clock this evening by calling 337-291-8800. Lafayette Clerk of the Council, Veronica Williams, says all the questions/comments will be read to council.

Williams says they are encouraging people to view the meeting on Acadiana Open Channel on your television, or via internet stream at https://www.ustream.tv/channel/lafayette-consolidated-government-council-meeting.
