We are into that time of the year when the weather can change over a lunch hour. Today is going to be one of those days. Here's a bit of a high-tech heads up on when forecasters believe we are most likely to be affected by strong storms and falling temperatures.

The catalyst behind this rapidly changing weather forecast is a swiftly moving cold front. On Tuesday this system was still west of Canada. By supper time tonight, most of Acadiana will be feeling or will have felt the effects of this system as it slides across the state.

Western sections of Acadiana will be the first to feel the effects of the system in the form of showers and thunderstorms. Forecasters believe Alexandria, Deridder, Fort Polk, and Lake Charles will start to get the rain and storms between 1 PM and 3 PM today.

Crowley, Opelousas, Abbeville, Lafayette, Breaux Bridge, and New Iberia will most likely get their first bit of stormy weather shortly after 3 PM and the heaviest weather will move out of the area by early evening.

As soon as the cold front moves through the area you will notice a sharp drop in temperatures. You might stop in at a bar or restaurant for cocktails and dinner at 5 PM and when you leave at 7:30 you could be wishing you had a coat and a wood burning heater in the car.

It does look as if we will get through the school day unscathed but if you've got a high school football game tonight you might want a raincoat and a warm coat if you're planning on staying for all the fun.

The outlook for Saturday and Sunday is nice but cold. Saturday's high temperature will struggle to reach 60 degrees. Sunday morning the temperature could be in the upper 30's. By Halloween on Tuesday temperatures should moderate into a perfect set up for trick or treat across the area.
